Magic moment on British television

On this day in 1969, Jimi Hendrix was appearing live on The Lulu show  and performed Voodoo Child, went into ‘Hey Joe’ for a verse and chorus and then went into his version of the Cream song ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’ as a tribute to the band who had split a few days earlier. Hendrix continued jamming and this stopped Lulu from properly closing the show. Magic!!!!

Jimi on Top of the Pops

In 1966 Jimi Hendrix appeared on Top of the Pops playing Hey Joe. Another momentous TV moment.

Jimi Hendrix

On this day in 1966, I first saw Jimi Hendrix on his TV debut on ITV’s ‘Ready Steady Go!’. How amazing!!!!

On this day in 1973, the CBGB Club (Country, Blue Grass, and Blues), opened in the Bowery on the lower eastside of New York City. It was founded by Hilly Kristal, it was originally intended to feature its namesake musical styles, but the members of Television persuaded Hilly to let them perform. The club then became a home for American punk and New Wave bands such as Talking Heads, Blondie, Television, Patti Smith and The Ramones. It was not a pleasant place either to get out of the cab on the Bowery or to be inside the club. But the music… I saw so many great bands play there.

ole Media

I am very happy to announce that we have reached an agreement to represent ole Media in Brazil. ole is the world’s fastest growing rights management company, and was founded in 2004 with offices in Toronto, Nashville, New York and Los Angeles. Thanks to Lou and Jodi, and to the various publishers who recommended us.

Nelson Mandela

I am so sorry that Nelson Mandela has died. We all sadly expected it, but the world has lost a saint, a lover of, and fighter for, freedom, dignity and liberty, and a healer. He was a man who was one of my all too few heroes.
A dear friend and I watched him on tv walk to freedom all those years ago, and we cried and cried with joy.
We all desperately need another Nelson Mandela in our lives.

What a session it must have been!

On this day in 1956, The so-called ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ impromptu jam session took place at Sun Studios in Memphis with Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. What a line-up!!! I went to the stage version a couple of years ago in New York and thought that it was brilliant, with great acting from all the actors.

Television – End of an Era at ATP

Television finished off their UK and Eire tour with a show at Vicar Street in Dublin followed by a final show at All Tomorrows Parties at Camber Sands. Both were great. ATP was billed as the End of an Era as it was the last show at Camber Sands. Television played one of the very first a number of years ago. The audience were ecstatic hearing Television re-creating Marquee Moon. Some of the other good bands were Godspeed My Black Emperor, Dinosaur Jr, and Thurston Moore`s new band.
